What is Future Cents?
This grant program will be funded until December 2011. The Greensboro Public Library was awarded a grant to develop and offer free programming and resources based upon the proposal submitted. The library chose to focus on teens as we see a great need for developing good money habits in young people. A solid community is built by strong youth. We strive to motive and instruct young people to adopt good money habits for their future.
Who has funded this grant?
Smart investing @ your library® is being administered jointly by the American Library Association and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation (formerly known as the NASD Investor Education Foundation). The program supports public libraries in their efforts to meet investor education and protection needs at the community level. Participating libraries and their community partners are helping individuals access unbiased, quality resources and educational opportunities at library facilities, at home via the Web, at the workplace and at other locations throughout their communities. Reaching out across the community, these libraries ensure that their patrons can easily find the information they need to improve their financial decisions.
What types of programs will be offered?
Although the primary focus of Future Cents is on teens the curriculum will include workshops and resources for parents as well. We know that reinforcement at home will solidify the skills learned in the Future Cents programming. Adult programs will be included throughout the year. The schedule will be listed on the When it is page of myfuturecents.com. Teens will have a core set of workshops ranging from the very basic to advanced investment concepts. Other topics for teens and parents include credit, budgeting, banking, saving, good money habits and more.
Who will be teaching the Future Cents programs?
We have a wonderful team of facilitators and instructors. The list may be found on the What It Is page. As details are finalized more information will be provided on this site. If you have questions about specific programs or to register please contact Martha Larson at (336) 373-4559.
